They are killing us!

I am reading this very informative book called “Natural Cures They Dont Want You To Know About” …i went camping for the past four days so thats why I havent been on. This book is blowing the whistle on the FDA, FTC, our Food & Drug Administration (and why are these one and not two separate entity’s? Think about it and will scare the hell out of you) Im only on ch 4 and I am shocked and I believe they we are being kept on meds and there will never be a cure because if they give cures they lose customers. Our meds give side effects that cause us to get sicker and need more meds. They are killing us by keeping us sick to make money. Our foods and meds are wiping us out…Im not one of those people who think the whole world is a conspiracy either but this book is something else. Did you know the FDA has said that only a drug can treat, cure, or prevent disease. So if you find a plant that will heal something you will be fined and imprisoned for saying so! Once you say it heals, treats or prevents it becomes a drug under the FDA’s law and you dont have a license to being selling or promoting it. You also can not get a patent on a natural method. It has to be man made….Natural means can treat and cure but because they are inexpensive we would buy them instead of the FDA’s drugs that only treat the symptom unlike natural means that can treat, cure and prevent, and they arent going to lose money. Friends they are not gonna give us cures sadly. They can’t afford to…its all about the money so they will keep us sick and to make this money they are killing hundreds of thousands a yr. I am now seeking out natural means to treat everything…I am starting by using 5-HTP to treat my cognitive and mood issues (bipolar disorder) the MS has caused. Studies have shown this natural supplement works as good as Zoloft does. I’m also using pure biotin to treat my MS. I havent stopped my MS med but Im going to later down the road for right now I have overhauled my diet by changing the high carb foods for healthy exchanges, and I use only olive and coconut oils along with almond and coconut flours. They have healthy benefits and in August I have gonna have my panels pulled to see what effect this has had on my cholesterol etc. Of course I do take Invokana and its side effect is raising your bad cholesterol which it did so now Im on cholesterol meds to keep it down. See what I mean about how they keep us sick, need more meds to cover up another? I’m getting ready to shed the Invokana for I think my sugars will steady on their own from my healthy eating. I will keep everyone up to date on this as I progress and get my numbers back.


Commercial Sunscreens, are They Harmful?

I was once asked about what sunscreen I used for this person said “Well they don’t sell anything but commercial ones in the store”…and I explained why I avoid most commercial ones and that I make my own. You will find the recipe at the bottom of this post. Since that time studies from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and Consumer Reports have put out several warnings, putting buyers against and not for using many kinds of today’s commercial and store bought sunscreens, these warning are placed especially for all children.

So are These Sunscreens Harmful?

Protective sunscreen usage has risen over time, with all the fda warnings concerning sun exposure dangers that are resulting in skin cancers and sunburns.The big problem with this is, not all sunscreens are made with products that are healthy for us. Some are toxic and you end up having more issues with getting ill from that more then you do with UV rays.

Here is why:

There’s 2 ways sunscreen protects your epidermis from sun damage: with either a mineral and or chemical barrier.

Mineral sunscreens usually have these following ingredients: titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide, which makes the barrier we all see when applying it to our skin. Next is….

Chemical Sunscreens…

Chemical ones use 1 or more of these chemicals:octinoxate, avobenzone, octocrylene octisalate,homosalate and oxybenzone.

If you have visited my blog before, you have probably noticed my opinion that if you cannot eat it, you should not be putting it on your skin. These chemicals listed above have raised several concerns due to the fact that many of them are able to cross over and into the skin, other tissue, etc.

As with any chemicals, its very important to ask  these following questions like:

Can this cross my skin and get into other tissue inside my body?

Do these chemicals have potential to interupt hormones in me or my children?

Is there any long-term allergy possibilities to these chemicals.

New research has shown given by the EWG revealed that the chemical properties used in most sunscreens are what as known as endocrine disruptors, estrogenic and that they may also even interfere with both the thyroid and other hormone processes inside your body.

The most common of these chemicals was Oxybenzone. It was discovered in 96% of the sunscreens used today by a recent study held by the CDC and Prevention. This was for sure especially alarming since oxybenzone has been found to reduce sperm count, it also can contribute to endometriosis in females and it is also considered an endocrine disruptor.

The EWG has warned and given its opinion against using oxybenzone.  Especially on pregnant/breastfeeding women, and on children.

Whats even more disturbing?

Of the 1,400+ sunscreens tested by the EWG, over 40% were listed as potentially contributing to skin cancer and that only 5% met the safety standards given.

Most of these sunscreens also contrained a Vitamin A derivative, retinyl palmitate which has been shown to speed up the growth of cancerous cells by up to 21%.

Many of these sunscreens also contained methylisothiazolinone, which was named allergen of the year by the American Contact Dermatitis Society.

The EWG’s most recent report listed Neutrogena as the #1 sunscreen brand to avoid, citing gives misleading claims about their SPF levels, and that it contains high concentrations of oxybenzone and other hormone disrupting chemicals.

Vitamin D Dilemma

For those of us with MS who has the well known vitamin deficiency of Vit. D this is gonna be a big one for you! Most sunscreens completely block the body’s ability to manufacture Vitamin D. Studies have shown that  75% of us are deficient in Vitamin D and Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to higher risk of cancer and heart disease which kills more people than skin cancer per year.

We may literally be cutting off our legs to spite the rest of the body when it comes to sun exposure. We are lathering up with chemical sunscreens that do have the potential to not just increase, but greatly increase skin cancer risk and to reduce our bodies ability to snag up the Vitamin D production by blocking it out in the name of avoiding skin cancer, and increase our risk of getting diseases related to this deficiency such as Multiple Sclerosis.

A Safer Option: Mineral Sunscreens

Mineral sunscreens are typically considered a safer option, but come with their own negative side effects and risks as well.

Some of these  mineral sunscreens also contain some of the named and mentioned chemical ingredients above.

Additionally, if the small particles of titanium oxide or zinc oxide are used, they can enter in the body and produce risks as well. Since these offer physical barriers, its also difficult to pinpoint the SPF of some of these mineral sunscreens.

My recipe for homemade sunscreen and lotion bars and both use non-nano zinc oxide for both a safe and natural sun protection. There also are some natural mineral sunscreens available that the EWG lists as being very safe. I’ve shared the list but I have not tried any of these for again I make my own. Its cheaper that way.

The Safest Option of all:

Cover up! Wear a shirt when for example during swimming. Swimming seems and tends to be when most people burn and use sunscreens. But you can cover up when doing any type of activities outdoors. To hot to cover up? Trying using a shade umbrella or seeking out the shadiest spot available.


I think another important step to protecting your skin from risk of sun damage is by supporting your self  internally.

In short, it is important to avoid foods that increase inflammation, such as:

  • processed vegetable oils
  • excess sugar
  • processed grains

And to keep your eyes focused on foods/ healthy fats that support skin health, including:

1/4 cup coconut oil melted in a cup of herbal tea per day- the Medium Chain Fatty Acids and saturated fat are easily utilized by the body for new skin formation and are protective against burning

Fermented Cod Liver Oil/High Vitamin Butter Oil Blend  (also great for remineralizing teeth)-Probably the most important supplement for sun protection. I take double doses during the summer and the kids take it too. Since adding this and the coconut oil daily, none of us have burned. It’s also great for digestive and oral health. (Amazon finally has the capsules back in stock)

Astaxanthin– A highly potent antioxidant which research shows acts as an internal sunscreen. It’s also supposedly an anti-aging supplement. I don’t give this one to the kids though.

Vitamin D3 (I take about 5,000 IU/day)- Emerging evidence shows that optimizing blood levels of Vitamin D can have a protective effect against sunburn and skin cancer

Last but not least, Vit C, at least 2,000 mg a day.

Bottom Line

It is important to be responsible with sun exposure, but many sunscreens offer a false security of sun protection and may do more harm than good. But now since you have all this valuable info you now know how to both make your own and what to buy if you wish not to.

My Natural Homemade Sunscreen
Homemade natural sunscreen with beneficial oils, zinc oxide and beeswax for water protection.
Recipe type: Remedy Sunscreen with natural ing. whose properties are natural at preventing burns.
  1. Combine ingredients except zinc oxide in a pint sized or larger glass jar. I have a mason jar that I keep just for making lotions and lotion bars, or you can even reuse a glass jar from pickles, olives, or other foods.
  2. Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and place over medium heat.
  3. Put a lid on the jar loosely and place in the pan with the water.
  4. As the water heats, the ingredients in the jar will start to melt. Shake or stir occasionally to incorporate. When all ingredients are completely melted, add the zinc oxide, stir in well and pour into whatever jar or tin you will use for storage. Small mason jars (pint size) are great for this. It will not pump well in a lotion pump!
  5. Stir a few times as it cools to make sure zinc oxide is incorporated.
  6. Use as you would regular sunscreen. Best if used within six months.

Additional Notes:

  • This sunscreen is somewhat, but not completely, waterproof and will need to be reapplied after sweating or swimming
  • Make sure not to inhale the Zinc Oxide- use a mask if necessary!
  • This recipe has an SPF of about 15, though adding more Zinc Oxide will increase the SPF
  • Add more beeswax to make thicker sunscreen, less to make smooth sunscreen
  • I recommend coconut or vanilla extract or lavender essential oils for fragrance
  • Store in a cool, dry place or in the fridge
  • I prefer to store in a small canning jar and apply like a body butter. It will be thicker, especially if you use coconut oil in the recipe.

Think outside the box for nutrition

Can I ask am I the only person who for sure gets confused, overwhelmed, and also agitated at all the slews of both confusing and conflicting theories about health? It is irritating, is it not? Back in the 80’s and 90’s were were told to watch our fat intake. Now jump into the 21st century and things have changed. Cause low and behold fat is good for you. Your brain has to have it but again its all about control. It is also one of our three needed fuel types. Then we run into the low carb issue, in where we are told to pretty much do away with them and to fill up on all the protein you can. But, our body needs carbs as well for it is a fuel source for our bodies…again its how consume it as well as fat. Our third fuel source is protein. Its a good idea to have protein along with either one of the other fuel sources, but as a rule of thumb, NEVER HIGH FAT AND CARBS TOGETHER AT ONE TIME. Protein is very filling.  Some scientists enforce calorie counting while others scientists are in their own opinions,  that calories don’t really matter. Canola oil, eggs, egg yolks, soy milk, or regular milk…are they good or bad? It all depends on which expert you ask! Today there is no lack in opinions about fad diets. Many want to believe that there are quick fixes for weight loss and all you need is a pill for general health, advice is everywhere one look—however, these fad diets do not last. Anytime you go to an extreme of eating by removing a certain food group and only eating another in the long run ends up in disaster. I do not remove any food groups. I believe god put them here so I believe he wants me to have them all. Only I stay away from man made and refined foods. They are really bad for you. Eating this way for me resulted in yes sustainable lifestyle changes but now I am feeling better, healthier then ever, controlling my MS better and I have one happy, healthy family. America is in a health crisis. Each person and family needs to do something totally different—we all need to think outside of the box.

Theres three ways we need to think outside of the box when it comes to eating & health.

  1. Consume foods that are outside of a box, bag, or package. You’ll find that “outside-the-box” foods likely come directly from the earth rather than a manufacturing plant. Simply put, food that consists of plants and quality animal products have the ability to nourish and heal our families. They also have more flavor to them. Processed and packaged foods that are refined and manufactured, on the other-hand, make us overweight and sick for they are full of hidden sugars in the form of carbs and additives. It’s okay to have formaldehyde for preserving the dead, but I don’t need it in any of my food! Yes it is used a preservative in foods.
  2. Many think that all they need for good health is a good diet. However, we don’t always realize that there are widespread factors that impact our health equally as much as our diet. Did you know that how one feels about things such as your work may be just as important as physical activity? Our personal relationships can have just as much impact on your health as the food you intake. Health is multifaceted by nature and we must assess and address it from all directions…Mind, body, and soul. Stress is one of the main things causing disease and leading to death in America. Its time to get stress under control. You can do this by evaluating your relationships along with being creative…make yourself happy.
  3. There are no easy solution to health. What works for one may not work for another. One person’s med could be a lifesaver for them but could be another person’s poison when it comes to each ones health. You can’t merely look to and believe the media, your neighbor, or the Internet for that fact to find what works for you always. Research is no doubt a critical first step, but self-awareness and self-trust will help us know exactly what nourishes our individual bodies best. As for me I will stick to what I’ve been doing since the first of this year 2015. I let all the hype and fad diets go. I am a Christian by believe and all this time instead of listening to the Bible I was listening to man. Man has brought nothing good forth. All this modified, gmo’s, etc were never meant to be. I follow the Bible based “Trim Healthy Mama” and will continue to so for me and my family. Superfoods for treating ms symptoms naturally and to help with preventing diseases.

Ask five nutritionists to give you a list of the greatest superfoods that those with chronic diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis  should be eating everyday and I bet you the results on every one of their lists will all be different but they will also be in agreement to an extent.  So why is that? Well why each of their lists are good its that each their food lists provides something different but of equally great importance to the body’s functioning. One or two foods could be very rich in both protein and/or fiber but then be lacking in both vitamins/minerals while at the same exact time another food on the lists are loaded up and full with chronic disease fighting antioxidants but lack in protein and different vitamins/minerals.  Scientists explain that eating these wide variety of power foods would be the very best way of guarantying the most optimal health/life and below is a list to get you started!

Start up your day and the whole body with a nutritious bowl of old fashioned oats or steel cut (instants are blood sugar spikers and less filling) They don’t only get the body revving and ready to go in the morning as a start up, but they are also great as a pre/post workout meal. So oats are more then just a hot breakfast food.

Remember the old saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”.  Apples are one of the superfoods that made our list as a powerful superfood. It is loaded with the following antioxidants: quercetin and catechin. Quercetin and Catchin work by  protecting the cells and they reduce the risk of both heart disease and cancers. This is especially even more potent if the skins are  consumed as well. So think twice before you ditch those peels or use them in your next batch of dried out  Apples and their outer skins are also higher in their fiber content more then other soft skinned fruits like the peach and grape.  Apples are very filling and taste just as great and provide the body with lots of energy, at the same time while providing their life saving antioxidant benefit.

As much as I prefer black to green tea I’m definitely gonna have to change that. Black tea lacks in nutrition but green tea contains a whole powerhouse of life giving and life saving antioxidants. It contains more then any fruit or veggie! Green tea contains  the antioxidant catechin in very high amounts. It has been shown to fight  and to prevent cell damage.  This means for those of us like me who suffer with Multiple Sclerosis can benefit from drinking it for it has been shown to  reduce inflammation in MS along with many other inflammation causing chronic diseases. Green tea doesn’t just help in the aid of reducing inflammation but it has also been linked in lowering heart-related issues, from congestive heart failure to high blood pressure. Its also believed to help block plaques from forming that are linked to Alzheimer disease. Enjoying tea just became even better just remember to keep it green and organic.

Another superfood thats been getting a lot of hype is Flaxseeds. Not only are they a  great source of fiber but they are also loaded with following acid, alpha-linolenic acid. Alpha linolenic acid is an essential fatty acid that helps to reduce inflammation in the body.  Flaxseeds they also contain lingans, which contributing to reducing the rates of certain hormone cancers.  Flaxsees anti-inflammatory properties have been shown to be beneficial for those suffering with inflammatory diseases again such as MS.  So go ahead and add a spoonful of flax or ground flax to your morning oatmeal, its good for you! Flaxseed is an outstanding superfood full of both fatty acids, protein and minerals. To get the most out of your flax please make sure to ground it or buy it ground. Otherwise it comes out in the form it went in.

Okay another one Im gonna put on my list of powerfoods for those of us with MS is beans. Beans are not only a good carbohydrate and a great source of soluble fiber, but black beans contain anthocyanins, an antioxidant compound that has been shown to improve brain function. So if you are experiencing brain fog and or cognitive issues this may just be what your looking for. Beans contain one the highest plant proteins but they must be combined with grain such as brown rice to be considered a full protein.  Beans are very much more than just the old saying a “musical fruit” and their health benefits may just outweigh the old song.

Keeping our bodies healthy is very important. This is only a short list of superfoods that I came up with to help us manage our ms symptoms. I’m sure the list could go on and on. To help deal with any type of disease each person must turn their life around and eating what will make the body work for us and not against us. This causes many disease if you don’t.

Beware of what exact olive oil you and your family is using…MUST READ!!!

I just wanted to give a shout out to everyone to tell all about an unhealthy “health food” – one that could be in that pretty pour bottle you got setting next to your kitchen sink.

This “health food” is what we know as extra virgin olive oil. The thing is, you really have no clue to what is in that bottle! I think you will be as in much shock as me, when you read the following disturbing news and think…

How could anyone sell us food like this and wake up each morning with a clear conscience!

Please know that I am not referring to all olive oil. Only the opposite. Health, organic, healthy,  authentic, and pure extra virgin olive oil is for sure one of mother nature’s most scrumptious and healthy foods. As I’ve mentioned here on my blog and also on my website consuming high-quality, healthy organic/natural fats like pure olive oil is for sure one of the most effective tasty means to maintain a healthy life style.

Several studies have shown that pure, authentic extra virgin olive oil also helps you ease inflammation …if you are like me and suffer with an inflammatory disease like MS, then this fact is very important to you along with the fact that it protects you against stroke, heart-disease and even some cancers …for those of us suffering with spactisity it is also helpful for achy joints which can help those with MS walk even a little further and it lowers blood pressure and bad (LDL) cholesterol. Those of you who are familiar with me and my life style knows that Im definitely on the Olive Oil bandwagon.

However, you only obtain those benefits mentioned if you and yours are consuming pure, authentic, and organic extra virgin olive oil.

And this is where the fraud issue comes in to play…

As many of you may have seen in the news, many of and if not most of the extra virgin olive oils etc in your local grocery stores not what they claim to be…in partial they are not just fraudulent,  but also adulterated, stale, mislabeled or even spoiled and rancid.

For ex:  independent tests at the University of California, Davis, had several studies that showed 69% of all store bought  extra virgin olive oils etc they tested were not what they appeared to be, including those famous brands whose names who many of you would recognize.

The New York Times currently released an explosive magazine article they titled “Extra Virgin Suicide.” It reported that many of the olive oil sold in our local grocer’s is diluted with inexpensive and cheap soybean and other very not so healthy oils. This to me is very disturbing cause many soy oil comes from genetically modified soybeans. Soy is something that I stay away from because studies show that it can cause cancers etc. You know soon I will be posting about that silent devil in due time.

NBC News released in its reports that “fake olive oil is rampant.”

CBS News added its own findings: “Buyers who think that they are purchasing one of the healthiest foods on the earth and world wide, often end up with something totally and very different.”

“America’s grocery stores are abound in cheap, fake and unhealthy ‘extra virgin olive oils,’” released The Wall Street Journal.

A top specially featured story on ABC’s Good Morning America was headlined, “Olive Oil Fraud Rampant.”

Forbes has even given out its opinion: “Here’s the hard truth: the olive oil in our pantries, the one we each bought for its health benefits and for getting into the seductive and popular Mediterranean lifestyle, is most likely a scam.”

So why exactly is this happening? 

With so many current studies applauding the healththy benefits of authentic olive oil , sales of extra virgin olive oil have soared worldwide. Huge money is involved, which has triggered the widespread counterfeiting, diluted oils that are coming foreign producers. US markets have became the dumping grounds for all these fraudulent oils. Yes yet it’s nearly impossible to get a handle on these shady foreign operators who are for sure supplying  these fake oils because they are beyond both ours and the reach of our U.S. regulators.
